Today is the first day of the annual exhibition of uchiwa or round paper fans called “Exhibition of 100 paper fans”.

＜Outline＞

Time and date：11:00 – 18:00 （till 17:00 on the final day）

From Saturday, August 5 to Sunday, August 20.

exc. August 7th, 14th, 15th, 16th

Venue：art gallery HAKUHO-DOH Okazaki, Kyoto

〜School cafeteria　 懐かしい場所〜

Since I had some little business near my alma mater, I had lunch at the school cafeteria.  This chic-looking cafeteria wasn’t around when I was a student there and I think I had never seen the building either in the last photo, however, somehow my heart warms every time I go there.

ちょっとした用件のために母校の近くまで行きましたので、学食でお昼をいただきました。私が通っていた頃にはこんなお洒落な食堂はなかったし、最後の写真の校舎も見たことがなかったと思います。それでも、心が暖かくなる嬉しい場所です。

〜It wasn’t hard.　螺旋階段の夢〜

I wrote about the dreams in which an insane woman appeared that I used to have when I was a child before.  The other day I had another impressive dream where I kept going up a spiral staircase.  The amazing thing about the dream was I didn’t feel grueling at all but kept climbing up pretty smoothly.

〜Solar terms 　大雨時行〜

This is the solar term for about five days starting today, which is literally, “Big rain occasionally falls”, and that means this is the time of year of hard summer rainfalls sometimes occur.

Overly hard rainfalls are never welcome.  However, now I would like some rains that could lower the temperature.

〜Now, it is August.　猫の偉いところ〜

The month of August has begun and this terrible heat is likely to continue.

I found this haiku intriguing as it says the cat knows the wind paths.  Cats seem to be very aware of the most comfortable places both in the heat and the cold.

〜Large pieces　昔話〜

My work of a large size (230cm or 90in x 70cm or 30in) was displayed at the traveling exhibition held a little while ago.  Then I found its size itself enjoyed much popularity.  I created it exactly ten years ago, though.

And I present here four of my large works displayed at my first solo exhibition about 15 years ago, wondering if size equals value.

先日の巡回展に縦が約230センチで横が約70センチの掛け軸を出展したら、この大きさ自体に随分と人気が集まりました。ちょうど10年前の作品なのに。

それで、大きさは価値かしらと思って、15年近く前の初めての個展で飾った大きな作品の画像を少し集めてみました。

〜Old children’s song　好きな題材〜

I love to choose words from old children’s songs as motifs for my calligraphy.  Especially this song about viewing fireflies fits well with writing on the round paper fans.

We, almost naturally, had some beer with food at a Japanese-style pub after happily reuniting.  We enjoyed the drinks and food immensely.
