The other day I wrote about my old works I happened to find. The photo shows one of the others. The pieces I wrote last time was kana (system of characters invented in Japan based on Chinese characters) works while this one is kanji (Chinese characters) piece. And another thing about is it seems I had it lined. What I liked about it, I wonder?

I learned the symbolic phrase for this time of year is this. However, I am afraid it is a little too hasty, because it was pretty warm in the afternoon today, in fact.

More and more “new” kinds of vegetables and fruits that weren’t around decades ago are seen in the fresh produce sections of grocery stores.
That is also true with flowers. We find more and more “new flowers”. These must have been around for long but they are found only recently at ordinary flower shops.
Interestingly, this is called “kangaroo paw” and more interesting is its flower languages are “mystery, astonishment” and “potentiality” above all.

Someone mentioned『星月夜』or “a very bright night sky”, literally “stars, moon, night” to my request asking for a favorite letter (character) or word, saying she loves the phrase because it is just very beautiful, and that she likes the famous painting by Van Gogh, as well.
As a matter of fact, I, too, like this beautiful phrase very much and had put it into my own haiku I wrote while looking after my mother still alive at that time.
The photo shows my work composed of three parts, that is, my tanka, my haiku and some comments. At times when my mother had bad moods, I used to take her out putting her in her wheel chair, which happened even after dinner a number of times.
One evening like that, the evening star and the crescent moon were seen beautifully in the sky as if they were facing each other and smiling at each other.
The first tanka part is my description of it and the second part is a haiku I wrote imagining taking mother’s hand and flying in the night sky together, and here I used the phrase『星月夜』.
And the last part is my comment that I was truly amazed to see my mother “expressed gratitude” to the beauty of the stars just because I had never thought she was that kind of person.
I didn’t write here, however, after returning home, she even said she should have put her hands together to give deep gratitude to the beautiful stars, which surprised me so much.

It has been a while since I began asking my readers to tell me their favorite letter (character) or word. Someone suggested “love” to this request. I guess there should have been others who thought the same way.
I don’t think “love” can be counted or its amount can be measured. However, I think “love” has depth to be measured somehow. The photo shows a very small folding screen with my cursive style calligraphy of “deep” and “love”.

This is the seasonal phrase for this time of year, meaning “the earth becoming to be icy”. Because it has got very chilly especially early morning, I think it well describes the weather now.

Around this time last year, my neighbors were picking citrus Junos fruits from a tree loaded with so many yellow fruits in their garden and they kindly gave me some.
This photo shows the fruit they gave me yesterday again from their garden and my calligraphic work of an ancient Chinese poem by a famous poet, Du Fu, in which the character of this kind of fruit appears.

About this time of year, my late mother used to say she loved orange osmanthus blossoms. She often said that before you know it, its fragrance was all around you and then you found the tree after noticing its fragrance. In short, she loved its unassumingness.

I did these as gifts to be enclosed in a letter to someone. For, people usually associate folding fans with good luck because they spread out wide toward the end.

Several of past works that I somehow thought of setting aside without any particular purpose came out. These were tasks of an ordinary practice sessions. I have no idea why I used these decorative sheets of paper. Did I think these looked good, I wonder?
