〜One calligraphy exhibition　柔らかくて美しい〜

This is my third time of visiting this calligraphy exhibition specialized in calligraphy of kana, or Japanese phonetic letters.  Although I know this is a conceited comment, I am certain its level has kept rising.  So, I was really looking forward to visiting its next exhibit. However, to my great disappointment, I heard this time would be the last.

Now, I do hope calligraphers assembled here will organize a new group and organize a new exhibition series.

この仮名の書展を見学させていただくのは、これで3回目になります。生意気な発言ですが、どんどん見応えが出てきます。それで次が楽しみと思っていたのに、残念なことにこれが最終回なのだそうです。

そういうことなら、ここに出展されている書家さんたちが新しい会を結成して、新しい展覧会を開かれるのを楽しみにしたいと思います。

〜Something from the past　どこが良いと・・・〜

The other day I wrote about my old works I happened to find.  The photo shows one of the others.  The pieces I wrote last time was kana (system of characters invented in Japan based on Chinese characters) works while this one is kanji (Chinese characters) piece.  And another thing about is it seems I had it lined.  What I liked about it, I wonder?

先日古い作品がいくつか出てきましたということを書きましたが、これもその一つで、先日のものは仮名でこれは漢字ですが、わざわざ裏打ちしてもらっています。何がいいと思ったのかしら？

〜Other tasks for the test 草書と仮名〜

I posted photos of my teacher’s models of tasks for a test of teacher’s qualification that my teacher gave me about forty years ago and my present results practicing them.  They were of print style and semi-cursive style.  Now the photo here are my present results practicing with my teacher’s models of cursive style and kana, Japanese phonogram.  I have identified myself as a qualified teacher of the school established by my teacher for more than forty years and now after those many years, I can’t help but wonder what level of calligraphy I handed in and got this qualification at the time.

以前、40年ぐらい前にいただいた受傳試験の課題のうち楷書と行書のお手本とそれを今習った私の字を投稿しましたが、この写真は草書と仮名の課題をもう一度習ったものです。私は40年以上の間新日本書道会の師範を名乗っていますが、当時はいったいどれほどの字を提出してこの資格をいただけたのかしらと考えてしまいます。

〜Starting over again 　別の古いお手本〜

I again began practicing by the book of models my teacher gave me decades ago.  When I upload photos of my calligraphy like I do here, at times someone tells me “Oh, you write various kinds of letters.”  However, my teacher taught big letters and small letters in various styles quite naturally, so I had always believed people do like this in all calligraphy schools.  It was after I got all grown up that I came to know that in some schools only writing big letters is taught and in others, they only practice small letters.

昔いただいた折手本を出してきてのお稽古の2冊目です。こうやって画像をあげていると、ときとして「いろんな字を書きますね」と言ってもらうことがあるのですが、先生は漢字も仮名も、取り立てて何ということもなく教えてくださっていたので、私はずっとお習字教室というのはそういうものだと思っていました。漢字だけの会や仮名だけの会があるのだと知ったのは、すっかり大人になってからのことです。
