The most impressive event this year was Cyndi Lauper’s final concert in Osaka. I felt both moved and happy to recall that I have always appreciated this female singer. They say her name, Cyndi, means “lunar goddess” and “spirit of the Moon”, which led me to learn my first Japanese word, “月魄” with these meanings.

Last night, I put this large yuzu citrus fruit in the bath with smaller ones. It was kind of fun, and I enjoyed the nice scent, too. I couldn’t find this large one anywhere, no matter how hard I searched a few years ago, but this year, I was happy to see it was available at the local supermarket I frequent.
I had the AI on the internet compose this tanka poem for me. Since “yuzu bath on the Winter Solstice” is a symbol of warding off evil spirits and misfortune, I asked it to compose a tanka poem incorporating this theme.
Sinking a fruit of yuzu citrus into the water/

昨夜のお風呂には、この大きな柚子を入れました。ちょっと楽しかったし、いい香りも楽しみました。何年か前にあちらこちら探しても見つかりませんでしたが、今年は近所のよく行くスーパーにあったので嬉しく思いました。
短歌はネットのAIに作ってもらいました。「冬至の柚子湯」には魔除け・厄払いの意味があるそうですので、この趣を入れて、作歌して欲しいと頼んだものです。
