Proud posting

This is again a result of my copying practice of my teacher’s work.

.

“Even a big tree begins from a twig.”

.

I think, here, I succeeded in copying the touch of my teacher a little.

It is such a pleasure and honor for me to participate in this great event to be held on September 12 and 13 at Kyoto Cultural Foundation <http://www.bunpaku.or.jp>, <http://www.bunpaku.or.jp/en/>.

My booth is “E2” that is facing Sanjo Street, one of the pedestrians’ favorite streets in Kyoto. I would be very happy and excited if many people would walk on this street and take a look at my calligraphic works in my booth and hopefully be interested in my calligraphy.

Seasons turn

Seasons turn

.

This phrase is allocated to the last several days of August by the solar term system.

.

It means the heat of the world (heaven and earth) is beginning to let up gradually.

.

Actually, it has been a little rainy since early this morning and the heat isn’t so severe.

Small decorations on the wall

Just like the small screens, I would like to offer a suggestion of these small decorations on the wall of your room.

.

They are “apparition or vision”, “thick tree” and “upwelling”.

Thanks for a good job!

These two scrolls returned from the picture framers’ shop after very properly framed.

.

The one on the right is “unlimited possibilities”. It may sound paradoxically but being inspired by this unprecedentedly inconvenient world at present, I got this idea thinking this adversity could unexpectedly give us “unlimited possibilities”.

.

While the left one is my version of “Scarlet by the Rolling Stones”. I was just so pleasantly surprised to hear this audio source was almost lost but found by chance.

.

I know most calligraphers have their own ideas about what colors or materials be used to frame their works. However, I completely trust my paperers for their good taste and skill.

.

And this time again, I found myself quite right at this.

Some lines from a children’s song

Today falls on July 7th according to the old lunar calendar.

.

We celebrate Tanabata or the Star Festival on this day, the seventh day of the seventh month, following a romantic fairy tale from the ancient China about a sad story of two young lovers.

.

So, I chose some lines from a children’s song for Tanabata as a material for calligraphic work.

Aiming at a simple living

These days I have been working on a very difficult task, that is, very difficult “for me”, which is to make my life as simple as possible.

.

I discarded lots of various kinds of articles in my house, large and small, including my old calligraphic works that were displayed in my previous four exhibits.

.

However, there are a number of pieces I just can’t part with.

.

The photo shows one of those to which I feel very attached.

A little late blooming

I found a gardenia flower in my garden.

.

The flowers usually bloom in June and July.

.

Unfortunately, only one flower doesn’t give off a substantial aroma.

Refreshing atmosphere

Entering the venue, I felt very refreshing and relaxed!

.

This severe lingering heat never seems to leave, but the event makes you feel easier and a little comfortable. You can escape from the heat and enjoy a variety of paper fans there until August 28.

.

I think I was really lucky to take part in this program.

My old “dream boat”

The photo shows my old piece from around ten years ago. It is “dream boat”, my favorite phrase.

.

Incidentally, I was really surprised later to learn that this boat “舟” accommodates only one person. So if you wish to use it to carry more than one person, you must use another character “船”, which means I have to work hard to create a good calligraphic work of “dream boat”.

.

However, I am happy to tell you that the one in the photo is a good example of combination of paper and cloth.

My starting point

As I often do, I practiced copying my first calligraphy teacher’s model works he left me many years ago.

.

Every time I do this, again and again, I thank my lucky stars for having this great calligraphy master as my teacher.

.

Now, I am sorry that until quite recently I kept hesitating to clearly state my being a pupil of the late Mr. Akiyama Kodo (秋山公道), just because, I think, I felt myself too poor to be one.

.

I am determined to keep making efforts to be able to say this with confidence.

.

“The goddess of victory loves endeavor.”

Deep fog?

This is one of the subdivided phrases from the solar terms system allocated to the middle of August, in other words, in the midst of the lingering summer heat.

.

Although I learned it meant “deep fog shrouds the world” I don’t associate fog with the heat around this time.

.

I just wonder if my distant relatives living in the mountains of the central part of Kyoto Prefecture may understand this sense of the season very well.
