Although it is according to the new calendar, today marks the Double Ninth Festival, a day to celebrate the chrysanthemums I wrote a modern haiku on the flower.
The famous haiku poet, Takahama Kyoshi seems to be feeling kind of uneasy about the lacking petals.

This haiku has the phrase, “stillness of night”, which I find very nice. And now I think we are finally beginning to enjoy such a romantic mood. It is still sometimes too hot and there is fear of approaching typhoons, though.

Some time ago, I wrote that I like the character of “flower” in any style. And I also like the letter for “fun”. I prefer its old figure “樂” to its present figure, “楽”, though.

I don’t quite understand why flying clouds are believed to be an auspicious omen. However, I know “clouds” often appear in expressions of auspiciousness. And I am sure I will take up other terms than this in the near future here.

I wrote the other day that I open the windows first thing in the morning when I get up. And I thought this haiku depicts what happens next: the morning wind comes straight to me. It has become a little cooler in the morning and the breeze also feels pleasant.

It is still too hot for me to be practicing calligraphy hard. I have only been remembering a variety of things about the Mother-Daughter exhibition held last fall. The best thing about the it was more people than I had expected came to the venue and saw my mother’s calligraphy.
I am very well aware that it is high time now for me to be trying very hard at calligraphy practice, rather than remembering about the past, though.

どうしても暑過ぎて、お稽古への力が湧いてこない感じです。昨年秋に開いた母娘展のことをあれこれと思い出しているばかりです。思っていたよりも大勢の人に来てもらって、母の字を見てもらえたのが何よりも良かったと思います。
