〜Even hotter　玉砂利の音〜

I have learned that pebbles are laid on the approaches and grounds of shrines because the noise they make when worshippers walk purifies the scene.  However, I think, as this haiku suggests, the noise makes people feel even hotter.

神社の参道や境内に玉砂利が敷かれているのは、参拝者がそれを踏んで進んでいくときの音も辺りを清める作用があるとされるからだそうですが、この句のように余計に暑く感じるかもしれません。

Various art exhibitions are being held.  This one, called “One Hundred Paper Exhibition,” is also my favorite.  I was allowed to participate in it several times.

〜Young chestnut burs　栗の毬〜

“Chestnut bur” is written in Japanese with a character for “ball” because, although it is covered with thorns, it has a round shape.  The photo sent from a friend shows some chestnut burs that have just fallen from a tree and are still young and soft.

〜Stalls at the festival　金魚すくい〜

Currently, the festival at the nearby shrine that I used to love is being held.  I had never tried goldfish scooping, however, I used to love walking along the shrine approach which had various kinds of stalls on both sides.
