I took a friend to a café where a good friend of mine had taken me before. The café is one of a kind that seems to be really popular right now. To put it simply, it is full of goldfish. The place has many aquariums; in fact, some are built right into the tables, letting you eat and drink while watching the goldfish swim gracefully. And the goldfish’s behavior is really entertaining. After all, they tend to gather wherever there are many people.
My calligraphy here features two modern haiku inspired by goldfish and an old Chinese poem of unknown authorship.

以前、ある友人に連れていってもらった、どうやら今流行りらしい金魚がたくさんいるカフェに別の友人を案内しました。ここは店中に水槽があって、それはもうテーブルにまで水槽が組み入れられていて、その中でゆらゆら泳ぐ金魚を見ながら飲食ができるのです。そして、その金魚たちの振る舞いが面白いです。何しろ、人間のいるところに集まってくるので。
私の書は、金魚をモチーフにした現代俳句2句と作者不詳の古い漢詩です。

Because a small forest and a stream are near my house, I have been used to hearing frogs croak since childhood. And I was wondering how something like that could make a haiku, but after listening to the call of a Japanese tree frog online, it made perfect sense.

After a little research, I found out that even in the world of haiku, the word “flower” doesn’t necessarily refer to “cherry blossom”. Since I thought the flowers in this haiku were a variety of flowers blooming in early summer, I decided to share this work at this time.

I think I heard that, in a woman’s letter, the P.S. reveals her true feelings and thoughts more than the main body of the text. That is certainly true, isn’t it?
Come to think of it, what did loquat flowers look like? There was a loquat tree at the house of my grandparents’ on my mother’s side, and I used to get very happy when the fruit ripened, but I just can’t remember what the blossoms looked like.
