〜Configuration makes the name.　中国語表記では圓珠筆〜

My friend in a faraway country which I visited for the first time in six years gave me a lot of ballpoint pens as gifts.  You will find things in a somewhat different design when you are in a different place.  However, its Chinese expression, “pen with a ball at the end” is just the same as the English word “ballpoint pen”, which I found very intriguing.

6年ぶりに訪れた遠い国の友人が、ボールペンをたくさんプレゼントしてくれました。ところ変われば、少し違うデザインも見受けられるようです。が、ボールペンの中国語表記を見ると、ペン先に丸い玉が付いているということで、英語のballpoint penと同じなのが面白いと思いました。

〜Homemade lemonade　 暑いときには〜

I thought sour flavor would be nice in this weather of extreme heat.  So, I bought lemons and tried to make homemade lemonade only to get something just too acidic.

〜Illusion　何故か魅力的〜

I enjoyed watching a movie about a famous illusionism artist; his life, art, and mathematics, as well.

Now I have a variety of things on my mind, but here I will only say it was a lot of fun.

I think people want to be cheated in not a very serious way, that is.

〜Comparison to nature　拘りのない心〜

I chose this phrase as a motif for my calligraphy work from a website about Zen words.  I learned the passage says that falling flowers, flowing water, moving clouds and sound of flutes don’t adhere to anything; they just come and disappear without leaving any traces.

.

禅語を紹介するサイトから選びました。散る花も水も雲も笛の音も、拘りの心は持っていない。ただ現れては流れ去り、跡を残さない、というようなことらしいです。

〜This calls for a celebration.　雀始巣〜

The seasonal phrase for the latter half of March is this, “sparrows start building nests”.  Because I live quite near Tadasunomori, every morning I hear lots of birds chirping and singing.  Birds have always been familiar to me.  And suddenly I had this idea that this deserves to be celebrated.  That is why I took the photo of my work with a glass with some Japanese saké.

3月後半の七十二候の名称です。私の家は糺の森のすぐ近くなので、毎朝鳥たちの囀りが聞こえます。鳥というのは、ずっと身近な存在でした。それでふと、きっとこれはめでたいのだと思って、お酒を入れたグラスと一緒に写真を撮りました。

〜Sailing to the island　巨いなる湖〜

Today marks the vernal equinox day, and I read somewhere that visiting Chikubushima Island on this day would bring you lots of good fortune.  And so, I paid a formal visit to the island and the shrines located there.

今日は春分の日ですが、今日竹生島に行くと縁起がいいと何かで読みましたので、その島のいくつもの神社にお詣りして来ました。

〜Chinese name　 最終形〜

These are the fifty gerbera daisies that came to my house a few weeks ago.  And the photo shows how they are arranged at the moment.  They have been giving me a lot of delight for long.  I checked the Chinese name for the flower（大丁草）and the flower languages.  There seem to be several different flower languages to each color and the ones I wrote here are general ones, “Filled with light”, “mystery”, “hope” and “advancement”.

数週間前に届いたたくさんのガーベラ。今は写真のように飾っています。長い間楽しませてもらいました。ガーベラの中国名（大丁草）といくつかの花言葉を書きました。色によって、いくつもの花言葉があるようですが、ここに書いた『光に満ちた』『神秘』『希望』『前進』は一般的なもののようです。
