Most flowers in the bouquet I got at the 牛丼 rice bowl shop the other went wither.  Still, the white statice look full of life as maybe expected as a kind of flowers to make dried flower.

Accordingly, I wrote a number of flower words for this kind of plant;

先日牛丼屋さんでいただいた花束のお花はほとんど枯れてしまいましたが、この白いスターチスだけは元気です。さすがに、ドライフラワーにしやすいお花だけはあります。そこでスターチスの花言葉いろいろを書きました。

〜Japanese-style pub　密かな女子会〜

A very good, longtime friend of mine took me to a very good Japanese style pub yesterday evening, saying it is too difficult for a woman to go there alone the first time.  It obviously is a good place that serves tasty dishes at reasonable prices.  For instance, as you can see the hors d’oeuvres on a plate, seasonal dishes cooked in the traditional way are served. However, I don’t think I can go there again if I am to go there alone.

初めてのときは女性は一人では入りにくいからと、昨夜旧い友人がいい居酒屋に連れて行ってくれました。お安いし、美味しいし、例えば前菜の盛り合わせの写真からお分かりのように、季節のお料理がいただけるとても良いところです。でも、2回目以降も私は一人では行けなさそう。

〜Emotional involvement　ある武具〜

I heard someone had a special emotion toward a “quiver” or an arrow holder.  I found the story extremely intriguing.  Thus, I tried three calligraphic pieces of the letter, one of which is a different character meaning the same thing.  No one asked me to do so, though.

〜Solar terms　おとといは梅で、今日は桃〜

The day before yesterday, I wrote about my visit to a plum tree bonsai exhibition.  And it happened to be this phrase, “peach blossoms begin to smile or bloom” is the seasonal wordage for five days from today.  The usage of the letter 笑, smile or laugh can mean flowers’ opening or blooming is definitely my favorite way of using this letter.

桃始笑。

おとといは盆梅展を見学したことを書きましたが、たまたま今日から5日間の七十二候の名称は、桃が咲き始めるというものです。笑うという字が、花が咲くという意味に使われるのはこの漢字の私の大好きな用法です。

〜Poor flowers　水仙、復活〜

Daffodils used to make my late mother very happy at this time year.  However, heavy snowfalls some time ago severely damaged these flowers.  Now I am happy to see the flowers making comeback little by little.

〜Indoor exhibition of bonsai　高貴な薫り〜

Yesterday I was on a bus tour organized by the association of senior citizens of the community and visited a famous indoor exhibition of bonsai, or miniature potted plants of plum trees.  I remember I went there with my mother long time ago and that the day was really cold.  While, yesterday was a warm spring day.

The phrase means auspicious chi or life energy fulfills plum blossoms.

昨日は地域の老人会主催のバスツアーに参加して、有名な盆梅展を見学して来ました。随分と昔に母と行ったことがありましたが、その日はとても寒かったと覚えています。昨日はとても暖かな春の日でした。

〜Pink lilies　虚栄心〜

Apparently, pink or red colored lilies’ flower language is “vanity”.  This is, I am sure, a rare case.  For, a big majority of flower languages are positive, bright words and a negative sounding word like this is seldom found.  They say it is due to the confident taste of the flower’s figure.  Nevertheless, being confident is a pretty favorable attitude, is it not?

ピンクまたは赤の百合の花言葉は虚栄心だそうです。花言葉にはポシティブな明るい語が多いのに、こういうネガティブな言葉は珍しいと思います。圧倒的に自信のありそうな風情からそのような花言葉がついたそうです。
