Although yesterday was Easter, I learned, this event doesn’t seem to take hold in this country. People often say that it is simply because settling the date is difficult. The seasonal wording for about five days with today as the middle day is “玄鳥至”, which means “swallows come with the spring season”. And this phrase reminded me of my first solo exhibition held at the beginning of 2009. The photo shows a part of my work displayed at the event that contains this word, “玄鳥 or swallow”.

One of my old friends loves umeboshi pickled plums. And this reminds me of my late mother, because making pickled plums was definitely her specialty. She used to make very beautifully red ones really painstakingly.
Here I chose the letter “Japanese plum” in a different figure from the one most commonly used, in other words, two parts are placed vertically, not horizontally.

旧い知り合いに梅干しが大好きな人がいます。梅干しと言えば、亡母の得意技でした。とても美しい赤い梅干しを手間暇かけて作っていました。
ここで使っている「梅」という字は、よく使う字姿とは違うものを選びました。つまり、二つの部分が横でなくて、縦に並んでいる字姿にしました。
