Yesterday I paid a formal visit to my late mother’s family grave. Then I remembered my grandfather often took me as a child to the fields for picking horsetails around this time of year. However, I can’t recall how he cooked the horsetails we brought back home and fed me.

As it is getting warmer, I expect small insects such as butterflies will be around soon. This work is a copying practice of my teacher. It has an interesting haiku about something very big and something very small; that is, a hanging temple bell and a butterfly settling and sleeping on it.

I found this interesting haiku while reading a website. I found it really interesting because it has some hint of science fiction that I love so much. Moreover, it happened to occur while I was watching a science fiction movie whose motif was that more than one time zones existed in one spaceship.
Obviously, this haiku has no season word, which is very rare. For, “seasons” are expremely important in haiku world.

Apparently, mahonia trees’ flower language is “violent emotion”. They are often planted in the direction of “kimon”, 鬼門 or literally “ogres gate” of the houses, maybe because their leaves are ragged they are expected to ward off evil spirits. The photo shows the one with yellow little flowers planted in my back garden and in the direction of 裏鬼門 or “back ogres gate” which is diagonally opposite corner from the front one.
