〜Water harp in springtime　春が始まる〜

Today marks the first day of spring.  With a somewhat happy feeling, I searched the net and found this modern haiku of the spring season about water harps.  A Suikinkutsu or a water harp placed under the earth that creates clear sounds for good is fantastic.

It is the beginning of the spring season/

Even the sound of Suikinkutsu/

Became colorific/

〜Surviving your parent　豆撒きの日〜

As today marks the close of winter, the tradition on this day of scattering beans to drive evil spirits away comes to my mind.  Just like this modern haiku, my father survived his father.

Survived my father/

I scatter the roasted soybeans/

To drive demons away/

〜Mysterious, but pleasant dream　綺麗な澄んだ音〜

I had a strange but attractive dream where beautiful, clear sounds were heard at regular intervals.  I only thought they were sounds made by suikinkutsu or a buried earthen jar that makes a sound when water drips into it.  For, other settings of the dream are unknown.

As today is the first day of February, I searched and wrote a contemporary haiku about this month.  It is still icy, but I realize the day is slowly getting longer.

As we are approaching the end of January, I searched for a Zen phrase suited to January or the New Year.  It apparently means that a little incident such as “the New Year” renews people’s spirits.  Then, everything, that is, people, physical matters, animals, and plants, starts to look fresh and bright.

The phrase apparently means satori exists in the silent world after the blaze of earthly desires was blown off.  It certainly was quiet on the snowy morning.  However, I do not understand what satori was.

This is the solar term for about five days starting today, which means it is the time of year when even a mountain stream freezes.  Also, it is considered the coldest season, and the season’s lowest temperature is often recorded.
