I heard that early this morning, there was a lunar occultation of the Antares; in other words, a phenomenon that the moon hides the first-magnitude star of the Scorpions, also known as “the heart of the Scorpion”. Then, I wrote “The Antares” in Chinese because I had a groovy image of the phenomenon. A specific image didn’t come to my mind, though. They say the same phenomenon will happen in June this year.

今日早朝アンタレス食、つまり月が蠍座の1等星アンタレス、別名「蠍座の心臓」を隠す恒星食が起こる日だと聞き、具体的なイメージは湧きませんが、何かしら素敵だと思い、アンタレスの中国語表記を書きました。今年は同じ現象が6月にも起こるそうです。

Today marks the first day of spring. With a somewhat happy feeling, I searched the net and found this modern haiku of the spring season about water harps. A Suikinkutsu or a water harp placed under the earth that creates clear sounds for good is fantastic.

I had a strange but attractive dream where beautiful, clear sounds were heard at regular intervals. I only thought they were sounds made by suikinkutsu or a buried earthen jar that makes a sound when water drips into it. For, other settings of the dream are unknown.

It is the solar term for about five days from today, meaning that it is the time of year when chickens begin to lay eggs at the hint of spring season.
I recall with nostalgia that when I was little, my mother would take me to her parents’ home where a few chickens always were, pick chickweed, cut it into small pieces, and feed it to the chickens.

今日から5日間ほどの七十二候で、鶏が春の気配を感じ、卵を産み始める頃とのこと。
幼い頃、母に連れられて母の実家に行くと、必ず2〜3羽の鶏がいるので、庭や畑からハコベを摘んできて、細かく切って鶏に食べさせたことが懐かしく思い出されます。
