〜Large pieces　昔話〜

My work of a large size (230cm or 90in x 70cm or 30in) was displayed at the traveling exhibition held a little while ago.  Then I found its size itself enjoyed much popularity.  I created it exactly ten years ago, though.

And I present here four of my large works displayed at my first solo exhibition about 15 years ago, wondering if size equals value.

先日の巡回展に縦が約230センチで横が約70センチの掛け軸を出展したら、この大きさ自体に随分と人気が集まりました。ちょうど10年前の作品なのに。

それで、大きさは価値かしらと思って、15年近く前の初めての個展で飾った大きな作品の画像を少し集めてみました。

〜Old children’s song　好きな題材〜

I love to choose words from old children’s songs as motifs for my calligraphy.  Especially this song about viewing fireflies fits well with writing on the round paper fans.

〜Solar terms 　土潤溽暑〜

This is the solar term for about five days starting today, which means it is the time of extreme heat when people feel it is like the heat wave nags around and is really hot and humid.

〜Celebratory drinking　やっぱりビール〜

We, almost naturally, had some beer with food at a Japanese-style pub after happily reuniting.  We enjoyed the drinks and food immensely.

Hold the transparent saké cups/

And try beating the heat/

〜Second term of the traveling exhibition 　東京会場では昨日から始まっています〜

YOU-BE EXHIBITION in Tokyo venue

The second term of this exhibition is at present held in Tokyo, at YW GALLERY until Saturday, July 29th.

In my post the other day, I wrote about its first term held in Kyoto.

Now I feel so happy and honored to have participated in this exhibition held in two major cities in Japan and in venues with very different features, as well.

It was my first experience and it certainly stimulated my determination to be a high-profile calligrapher.

第7回優美展 YOU-BE EXHIBITIONの後半の会期は東京ゆう画廊にて7/29(土）まで開かれています。

前半の京都会場での様子は以前書きましたが、このように日本の二つの主要都市で、また、全く異なる特徴を持つ二つの画廊で開催されるこの作品展に参加させていただいたのは初めてのことで、まことに嬉しく思いましたし、これを機にさらに注目を集める書家になろうと決意を新たにいたしました。

〜Shinkansen haiku　久しぶりの新幹線〜

I think I have written here something like “for the first time in ages” many times these days.  And here is another post of that sort.  I will be on a Shinkansen train in several hours and will go to Tokyo for the first time in a long time.

〜Chinese once-upon-a-time story　雲の家〜

Apparently, people in ancient China believed “clouds” lived in mountain caves.  They also believed that they came out of the caves in the morning and go back in the evenings

〜Chinese poem on the Moon　 新月は三日月〜

It may seem like this ancient Chinese poem is about the New Moon, however, obviously, “New Moon” means the very thin moon right after New Moon.
