My friend’s garden has many different kinds of plants.  This is a winter sweet tree called “蝋梅” in Japanese, literally “wax plum (flower).”

It reminded me of when I was young and first learned about this kind of plant, “winter sweet”, in flower arrangement lessons—I remember thinking, “Ah, the petals really do look like what is made of wax.”

But not completely, leaving a little space/
