〜Re-encounter with good old friends　ちょっと、でなくて〜

A long and very good friend of mine contacted me recently and yesterday we had lunch together for the first time in many years.  Unlike the modern haiku below, I very much enjoyed this happy luncheon.

〜Gifts　なかなか会えない友よ〜

These are my calligraphic works I would like to give to my long-time valued friend.  She had always been good to me and was really good to my late mother in her last days.  Thus, I would like to give these to her as a token my great thankfulness but it is too difficult for us to meet in person at the moment.

旧い友に贈りたい作品です。彼女は私にずっと良くしてくれただけでなくて、晩年の亡母にとても良くしてくれたので、感謝を込めてこれらを差し上げたいとずっと思っているのですが、なかなか会えません。

〜Solar term and a haiku　紅花〜

I chose a solar term for five days starting today, “紅花栄”, or safflowers bloom in profusion for my calligraphic work.  Interestingly enough, “紅花” or literally “scarlet flower” is the name of my important friend.  I haven’t had a chance to meet her for a long time unfortunately, though.

How I wish her life be full of good luck and every success in her business!

Here, I also wrote a modern haiku about the flower.

今日から5日間ほどの七十二候の名称を書きました。「紅花栄」です。なんと、「紅花」は長らく会えていない大事な友人のお名前でもあります。彼女と彼女のビジネスが益々栄えますように！　

紅花を題材にした現代俳句も書きました。
