On the morning of Tuesday, we had an unexpected heavy snowfall. Cold weather seems to last forever this winter. I hope the snowfall in the photos will be the last one in the season.

Yesterday I wrote about delightful chocolate gift, a Western kind of sweets, from my friend. And today, this is about sakuramochi or a cherry flavored soft sweet rice cake, a Japanese kind of sweet stuff.
These are Chinese words for this sakuramochi, sponge cake and a contemporary haiku about the sweet.

Today falls on the first day of the period of Yushui, the second solar term, when it is the time of year what falls from the sky changes from snow to rain. And the piles of snow on the ground begin to melt.
Another old saying goes “if you begin displaying the dolls for Hinamatsri doll festival on this day, you will be blessed with good relations”.
Thus, I display my own calligraphy of a contemporary haiku about the doll festival, wishing for many good occasions to come to Chio’s calligraphy.
