〜New kind to me　溢れる想い〜

I found these little flowers, Clethra barbinervis, at the grocery store I frequent.  I think it was my first time to see them.  There was a note saying “Please treat the flowers very carefully as they are really delicate”.  They look pretty fragile indeed, however, when I looked up the flower language, I found a strong expression, “Bursting emotions”.

Incidentally, I used a silk cloth for this piece.

この小さなお花、つまり姫リョウブは、いつものスーパーで見つけました。初めて見たお花だと思います。「繊細だから丁寧に扱ってください」との注意書きが付いていました。確かにか弱い感じがします。けれども、花言葉を調べたら、「溢れる想い」という強い表現が見つかりました。

ちなみに、これは絹布に書きました。

〜Can you see the moon? 　遠方の友人〜

This passage is from an old Chinese poem, which is said to express concerns over a very close friend living far away.  “You may not be looking this clear moonlight just as I am now”.

〜Life changes　心機一転〜

A very close friend of mine moved to a new apartment.  May the new surroundings give her a new frame of mind.  She, I am certain, will only see a bright future in her life in the days ahead.

This phrase means “starting fresh”.

The second image shows a dreamcatcher, believed to be an amulet, in my room.  I looked for its Chinese word.

I often have weird dreams right before waking up these days.

〜Visiting the tomb　お子さまランチとビール〜

My late mother and I used to visit her family tomb together and then had lunch together.  I often had a kid’s meal with beer.  A couple of days ago, I went to the grave and had the same menu all by myself.

〜Flower languages of the pink peony flower　ちょっと「らしくない」〜

The peony flowers are usually big and lordly.   However, the flower languages of the pink peony flower, “bashfulness” and “shyness” are very reserved, I think.

Thus, here is the “blushed cheeks, sheepish act”.

芍薬のお花は大きくて堂々としているのに、ピンクの芍薬の花言葉は、「はにかみ」や「恥じらい」だそうで、随分と控えめだと思います。

〜Kyoto history　ご由緒〜

Yesterday I took part in a gathering at our family temple, where I happened to see a very old folding screen of the temple’s possession.  The main priest and his family don’t seem to be very aware of its origin, however, it looks like hundreds of years old.

Some people tell me Kyoto is an extraordinary city because of its extraordinarily long history and tradition.  And sometimes I am certain that the theory is so true.

昨日はお世話になっているお寺さんでお集まりがあり、その際にたまたまそのお寺の所蔵されている古い屏風を拝見する機会がありました。ご住職もそのご家族も、その屏風の由来はよくわからないとのことでしたが、何百年かの歴史はあると思いました。

ときとして、京都は歴史がすごいと言われますが、本当にそうだなあと思うことがあります。

〜Solving a problem　快刀乱麻〜

At times, I feel like writing on cloth.  Thus, here is “Solving a problem swiftly and skillfully” on linen cloth.  It apparently originates from an expression, “Cutting tangled linen yarns with a sharp sword”.  The last character means “linen”.

ときに布地に書きたくなり、これは麻布で、「快刀乱麻」。元々はもつれた麻糸を鋭利な刃物で断ち切るように物事を処理、解決するという意味らしいです。
