I searched for a Zen phrase suitable for this month to serve as a motif for my calligraphic work. I found this one, which apparently means everything appears as is, and a pleasant fall breeze. This year, however, we haven’t had a chance to enjoy a refreshing breeze, even though it is already in the middle of the month.

Just out of curiosity, I looked up the Chinese word for avocado that my late father loved. And I found out it was written “alligator fruit.” Incidentally, he loved to have it dipped in soy sauce seasoned with grated wasabi or Japanese horseradish.

In other words, it means all living things live freely and enjoyably, following their natural characteristics. And it extends to suggest that the world is peaceful under good governance. 楽しそうな四字熟語だなと思って書きました。空では鳶が飛び回り、川では魚が踊っている。つまり、すべての生き物が自らの自然な性質に従って自由に楽しく生きるという意味で、更にそこから、良い統治のもとでは世界は平和であるという意味になるそうですが、地上の人間にはあまり当てはまらなそうです。
