I tried this way of collaboration with one letter and the last one, that is, written by my mother several times.  This one should appear at the exhibition this weekend.

〜Medley of my memories　ちょっと書き溜めたものたち〜

These are my little pieces I wrote thinking of my mother, my poems, someone else’s poem and a little note about how she must be proud of me.  However, I just can’t decide whether I should display it at the mother daughter exhibition or not.

I asked my mother to leave lots of calligraphy a little before she turned ninety.  However, these will be difficult to be displayed at the mother daughter exhibition.

〜Lucky me!　名刺もお願いしました〜

I asked Itooto, a very talented graphic designer and illustrator to design the invitation card to the mother-daughter exhibition.  And the result is this wonderful postcard!  I was so moved I wrote “gratitude” and gave her a beautiful tenugui or Japanese style hand towel as a thank you gift, which I heard she uses quite regularly.  This one was produced by a very talented, again, professional dyer.

Then I asked her to design my business card and this fantastic, beautiful creation came out.

今回の母と私の書の作品展のご案内の葉書は才能豊かなクリエータのいとおとさんにお願いしました。とても素敵なデザインにしてくださいましたので、『感謝』を書きました。それから手拭いを愛用されているとのことでしたので、綺麗な手拭いをもらってもらいました。この手拭いも才能豊かなある染色家の手によるものです。

それから、名刺の制作もお願いしたところ、このような素晴らしい創作をしてくださいました。

〜Out of season…?　金魚〜

I am going to show this one at the mother-daughter exhibition scheduled for the end of this month.  The big letters “金魚 or goldfish” is by my mother and I wrote the small ones, an old Chinese poem about goldfish.  The origami goldfishes were made by the caregivers at the facility for the elderly my mother belonged at the time.  It holds a lot of memories for me.

〜His sorrow　祖父の歌〜

I visited the grave of my mother’s family the day before yesterday and yesterday I found this in the closet of my house.  A tanka poem composed by my grandfather on my mother’s side is written by himself.  He expressed his sorrow of losing his wife.  This one will be exhibited at the mother-daughter exhibition scheduled for the end of this month.

〜The very first try　初めの一歩〜

A number of collaborated works by my late mother and myself will be exhibited at the eventscheduled for the end of this month.  And among them this is the very first collaboration with my mother.  Firstly I asked her to draw a circle using pale ink and I wrote a passage from one of Laozi’s well-known productions.  It was originally shown at my first solo exhibition held at the beginning of 2009.

〜Four big ones　メインの作品〜

These are the main features to be exhibited at the event scheduled for the end of this month.   The big letters, names of the flowers of the four seasons were done by my late mother, out of which, the “Daffodil”, the first one, brought the whole idea to me.  The others are “Cherry blossom”, “Lily” and “Chrysanthemum”.  And the small letters in each piece are haikus about those flowers composed and written by myself.

〜Resemblance　游と遊〜

“游” and “遊” look alike and I prefer the former one.  They have almost similar meaning, “to play”.  However, the left part of “游”, my favorite one means “water”.  Thus, this one has an additional meaning, “to play in the water” or “playing while floating on water”.

よく似た二つの漢字ですが、私は「游」の方が好きです。どちらも「遊ぶ」意味ですが、「游」はさんずいがついているだけあって、水で遊ぶとか、水に漂いながら遊ぶという意味があるようです。
