〜Freezing cold　池の氷〜

In the bitter cold the other day, I heard the pond in my friend’s garden had frozen over.

This poem apparently contrasts the warm eastern side, where the pond ice melts, with the blossoms on the plum tree on the cold northern side that would not open.

先日の寒さの中、友人のお宅のお庭の池が凍ったようです。

この詩は、東側は暖かくて池の氷も解けるけれど、梅の木の北側は寒くて花が開かないという対比を表現しているようです。

Poem by a famous poet, Bai Juyi　夜雪〜

Apparently, it is a poem about feeling cold at night while sleeping, only to find it had been snowing.  At the end, it mentions the sound of bamboo cracking, but I am not sure what kind of sound that is.  The snow scene images were taken during heavy snowfall two or three days ago.

白居易の詩で、夜、就寝中に寒いと思ったら雪が降っていたという内容のようです。最後に竹の割れる音がしたとありますが、どういう音なのか私は分かりません。雪の画像は、2〜3日前の大雪の日のものです。

As today marks the end of this year, I searched for a motif for my calligraphy by the phrase “end of year”, and I found this one by Du Fu.  This is a part of it, though.

〜Large piece of paper　皆既月食〜

Since I heard the full moon that is rising this evening will be accompanied by a total eclipse very early tomorrow morning, I found and wrote an ancient Chinese poem titled “Lunar eclipse.”  I got tired after struggling with a large piece of paper for the first time in a while, though.

〜Healing power　いつもの癒し〜

I enjoy this exhibition every year, and I always feel the calming effect of the gentle lights.  However, actually creating these fantastic items would require a lot of physical strength.  It must be similar to the way water birds look graceful on the surface but move their legs very powerfully underneath.

My calligraphy here consists of an ancient Chinese poem and a haiku, both of which are about bamboo forests.

この展覧会は毎年お伺いしますが、いつも優しいあかりに癒されます。実際にこれを創作するのは、なかなかの力仕事らしいですが。水鳥の水面から上の様子と、水中での足の動きの関係なのでしょう。
