I learned that trees of Sophora japonica have often been planted in shrines and temples from long ago, because the plant has been considered a symbol of charms against evil and misfortune. Looking at how the branches shape, however, I feel a little scared.

This modern haiku must be a wintertime haiku, I think, however, even surrounded by this gradually warming air, I heard a clear “winter voice” when I listened to a suikinkutsu (水琴窟). This Japanese garden feature is a buried earthen jar that sounds when water drips.
