〜Good repose for mom  有難うございました〜

The exhibition closed successfully yesterday.  I was so happy to welcome more visitors than I had expected.  I am now wondering if my mother was this popular among people around her.  I am thankful to enjoy so much well-wishing for my late mother and myself in various kinds.  Also, I am grateful to those who couldn’t make it because of variety of reasons and said something like “I really wish I could go but…”.  

I have spent my days mainly looking after my parents for several years.  However, I am now determined to make strenuous efforts to be an excellent calligrapher, with encouragements from many people in mind.

Last but not least, I offer my maximum thanks to the owners of the gallery and the people working in the paperer.

昨日までの母娘展には予想を越える多くの人々においでいただきありがたく思います。母はこんなに人気があったかしらと思うぐらいでした。また、さまざまの形の応援をいただき心からありがたく感謝申し上げます。

ご都合やご体調のために「行きたかったんだけど・・・」という連絡をくださった方々にも同様の感謝を捧げます。しばらくは親の世話を中心にした日々でしたが、この度皆さまから頂戴した励ましを胸に書家としてますます精進して参ります。

最後になりますが、画廊さんや表具屋さんにも心からの感謝を捧げます。

〜Should I simply be happy?　 いただきもの〜

Someone gave me this big piece of Swiss roll for a token of her gratitude for my calligraphy of her favorite letter that I gave her. I was really glad to know my calligraphy made her that happy but at the same time I felt sorry because I asked her favorite letter just because I wanted fodders for my social media.

Apparently, this is a Chinese equivalence for “Swiss roll”.  My search result showed other possibilities that are very similar to this, though.

お好きな字を尋ねて、書いて、差し上げたお礼にと、この大きなロールケーキをいただきました。私の字をそれほど気に入ってくださったかと思うととても嬉しいですが、単に自分のサイトなどに投稿するためのネタが欲しかっただけなので申し訳なくも思います。

これはロールケーキの中国語訳のようです。調べたところ、これによく似た他の語も見つかりましたが。

〜Dear friend いつもありがとう〜

I wrote these for a long-time good friend.  She was very considerate of my mother in her late life.  Although many years have passed since we first met, she still sends me seasonal gifts.  These are to express thankfulness to her for those presents and wishing good fortune in the future for both of us, I used votive picture tablets as material.

昔からのいい友人のために書きました。彼女は晩年の母のためにもよくしてくださいました。知り合ってから随分になるのに、今なお贈り物の季節にはプレゼントを送ってきてくださいます。ささやかですがお礼として、またお互い願い事が叶うようにと、絵馬に書きました。
