It has already been five years since I visited Poznań, Poland and was allowed to participate in a calligraphy exhibition, being very worried about my mother who must be waiting for me in an institute for the elderly. I got precious friends there who have been giving me warm and strong friendship even now, which is something like a “dream friendship” without a sense of reality.
This website, https://yushokai.com has lots of posts, as well as pages. I just published two pages (English and Japanese) about an order established in Poland to decorate those who made great contributions to children’s welfare. The links below will take you to the pages.
This is my gift to the Polish couple who were so kind to me and took very good care of me on the occasion of a calligraphy exhibition held in Poznan, Poland in November 2017. The left has “blessing” because I learned it was the meaning of the wife’s name. The right has a haiku, the husband’s favorite one by the famous haiku poet, Matsuo Basho (松尾芭蕉). And here, I would like to add some remarks that I wrote the letter for autumn “秋” in an unusual manner, that is, putting the left part and the right part reversed, which is no mistake but another variation of the letter. I just like the letter this way. There is far more flexibility about the Chinese characters than people usually expect.
The first picture shows a painting that my important friend in Poland sent me. This painting immediately reminded me of a sort of a game played among people of culture in old times; that is, first, a painter draws anything he or she likes and then a calligrapher writes in the margin what he or she is inspired by the drawing. The second picture shows the result; first I added the calligraphy “energy of love” on the same paper, then, I added my paperer framed it into a panel.
