We keep finding new kinds of flowers one after another at flower shops.  And it is surely interesting to look for their flower languages.  Obviously, the flower is called “frost aster” and its flower language is “being delightful all the time”.

〜Buddha and the red flower　赤いカンナのお話〜

The other day I wrote that the birthday flower for the new born baby was “canna”.  Then I found a brief tale about Buddha and this kind of flower.

An evil entity threw a huge rock to Buddha envying his mighty psychic force.  But the rock didn’t hit Buddha and broke to pieces, one of which hit Buddha’s toe.  It is allegedly believed Buddha’s blood from this wound soaked in the earth, where bloody canna flowers grew and bloomed.  The evil entity incurred by the wrath of the earth and was engulfed into the earth from a fissure.

〜Newborn baby girl　 カンナ〜

As I heard an acquaintance of mine had a new baby girl, her second child, I checked the birthday flower for the birthday, August 19, which is “canna” and wrote the flower’s name in Chinese 美人蕉and two of the flower languages, 情熱 or ebullience and 快活 or brightness.

〜Modest happiness　そんなのは嫌だ〜

Fruits of solanum jasminoides I sometimes find at florist shops have attracted my attention these days.  Thus, I checked its flower language and the first one I found was “modest happiness”.  I definitely love to have a GREAT happiness, though.

I am sure people will ask you what do you want now?  For, the flower languages of roses are very well known.  Especially, that of the red flowers are so famous. 

Red:  I love you.

White:  Deep respect

Yellow:  Friendship

〜It won’t last long　どういう感情もそうかも、ですが〜

Since I found tutsan fruits very lovely, I looked for the flower language.  I learned that as the plants bear fruits soon after their flowers cease to bloom, the flower language is “sadness ends soon”.

〜No mystery　白いお花のも〜

I happened to see these cute flowers at a storefront of a floral shop.  I had always thought the denfale varieties had pinkish flowers.  So, these white flowers look just new to me and I checked their flower language to find “pure love”, which made me think it is just about “natural”.

花屋さんの店先でふと目に留まりました。以前は、デンファレと言えばピンク系のものばかりだと思っていましたが、こういう白いのもあるのだなと思って花言葉を調べると「純粋な愛」だそうで、まあ、そんなところだなと思いました。

〜Amusing Chinese character　鬼だ！〜

I often ask people around me for their favorite character or word for my calligraphic activity.  This time, I asked this question to my long-time friend from high school days.

And she gave me this very interesting looking character “槐” or “sophora”, a kind of plants, that can be divided to two parts, “tree” and “ogre”.

Please enjoy some photos I took at the Kyoto Botanical Gardens, as well as my work.

Incidentally, its flower languages are “welfare” and “refinement”, as the plant is regarded as a sign of auspiciousness.

何しろ、「木偏に鬼」で槐（エンジュ）！

These are thunberg lilies that caught my attention at a florist shop.

And little wonder, its flower language is “being high-profile”.

It would be so delightful if my calligraphy would draw much attention in the world.

However, I sincerely hope this amazing culture and art will attract a great deal of attention across the globe.

〜Cluster of small red flowers  燃え上がる恋〜

I find beautiful flowers somewhere…I become happy and take a picture…then, look for its flower language…and use it as a motif for my calligraphy.  These days I found this process so fun and I enjoyed doing this repeatedly.  However, in this case, it wasn’t very amusing.

For, the flower word is such an expected one.  

“Ardent love”
