Responding to my request for favorite words, someone gave a passage by the late Ms. Ikeda Akiko, a philosopher and writer.  

“It is not medical treatment but words that can rescue those on death beds or in the worst despair.  Not even religion but words.”

〜What is most valued at present　穏やかさ〜

Just as I did many times, I asked someone for his favorite character of word, and he suggested “tranquility”.

Following is the reason he mentioned; when young he had completely no respect to a quiet, commonplace life, which at the moment, he values very much.

〜Your way, my way　私の好きな字〜

It has been some time since I began asking for your favorite character(s) or word(s).  Now, I am going to introduce one of the letters I like, that is, 道 meaning way or course that one should follow in life.   I think the letter also implies will or purposefulness.  And the most important thing about this letter is it appears in my teacher’s name, which is not his real name, but his name as a calligrapher.  In other words, he himself chose the letter.

お好きな字や言葉を教えてくださいとお願いしてかなりになりますが、この辺りで私の好きな字を書きます。「道」には「意志」が感じられますし、私の先生のお名前に使われています・・・というより、雅号ですから、先生自らが選ばれた字だと思うのです。

“A happy girl smiling broadly”.  This is yet another my old piece.  Its motif is my favorite phrase and my favorite image, as well.
