〜Kikuningyou

Some time ago, I wrote a haiku about chrysanthemums on the Double Ninth Festival day, which reminded me of my grandfather on my mother’s side who loved 菊人形 or “chrysanthemum figure”.  He and my mother often took me to the figures’ exhibitions at this time of year.

Kikuningyo is a life-size figure made of stalks of chrysanthemums with colorful flowers and leaves.  They often represent personae from kabuki period dramas.

Here is another contemporary haiku about chrysanthemums, where the letter for chrysanthemum appears twice.  The first one is close to print style, while the second one, or the last letter, is in cursive style.
