This is the seasonal wording for about five days starting today.  This old expression says “It is the time of year when bamboo shoots, a popular cooking ingredient, start growing”.  It seems to me, however, that it is a little outmoded because I already enjoyed having bamboo shoots in some dishes several weeks ago.

今日からの5日間ほどの七十二候が「竹笋生」つまり筍が生えてくるという意味ですが、もう何週間か前には筍入りの料理をいただきましたし、ちょっと時期が遅いのでは、と思うのです。
