Dinner on New Year’s Eve

1231 12.31

I learned the phrase meant family members get together for the dinner on New Year’s Eve. In our case, “family members” indicates only my old mother and I. We, however, had grilled spareribs that must be popular among young people.

Old acquaintance 再会

friend

“Isn’t it great when friends visit from distant places?”

I chose this phrase by Confucius because I had a great time with a friend from far just like it mentions the other day.

I remember my late father was pretty pleased with my flower arrangement of only chrysanthemums displayed at our entrance when I was young and practicing Japanese style flower arrangement, Ikebana, like many other Japanese young girls. No other than my father who never noticed anything around home!! I realized then the flowers had a big presence.

When I went to our family tomb on Sunday, I found some bellflowers blooming already. I wonder if the season of all will come sooner than usual this year.

Sounds romantic!

Tanabata never fails to fascinate me. For, it is a festival of stars and the custom of making wishes also is appealing.

The photo shows my works of a children’s song of the star festival and a haiku about a strip of paper which people write their wishes on.

From time to time, we come across wild animals, such as deer, families of tanuki, or raccoon dogs, wild boars and even monkeys. Among them, deer are the most commonly seen.
