Since the poem suddenly mentions “the ninth day,” I looked it up to see what it meant and found out it referred to the Double Ninth Festival on September 9.   However, the content was quite bitter.  It even suggests that the chrysanthemums were mocking the poet.

いきなり「九日」と出てくる詩なので、何かしらと調べたら、九月九日の重陽の節句のことでした。けれども、菊花まで自分を嘲笑っているという随分と不貞腐れた内容でした。
