This seasonal term is allocated to about five days around today.  It apparently means this is about the time peach blossoms start to open.  The letter 笑 primarily means smile or laugh.  The letter also means flowers bloom or open.  And I love this idea.  Therefore, “peach blossoms begin opening” can also mean “peach blossoms begin smiling”.
