This is the seasonal phrase or solar term for about five days starting today, which apparently means it is about the time when swallows that migrated to Japan in early spring are leaving here and heading for the south.  I heard somewhere that migratory birds’ hometown is where they reproduce.  I am not sure, however, if this theory is true.  If true, Japan is their home.

今日から5日間ほどの七十二候で、春先に日本にやってきたツバメが、南の地域へと帰っていくころとの意味。何かで渡り鳥の故郷は繁殖する方の地域だと聞いたことがあります。これが本当かどうか分かりませんが。本当なら、燕の故郷は日本ということになります。
