I often ask people around me for their favorite character or word for my calligraphic activity. This time, I asked this question to my long-time friend from high school days.
And she gave me this very interesting looking character “槐” or “sophora”, a kind of plants, that can be divided to two parts, “tree” and “ogre”.
Please enjoy some photos I took at the Kyoto Botanical Gardens, as well as my work.
Incidentally, its flower languages are “welfare” and “refinement”, as the plant is regarded as a sign of auspiciousness.
If you have a favorite character or phrase that you would like Calligrapher Chio to write, please let her know by sending it (them) to her address, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Requests for Chio’s calligraphy are accepted at email@example.com as well.
