We had a very hard rain on the afternoon and evening of the day before yesterday.

The photo shows my little works “flying rain”, which, I learned, means “a very hard rain”.  Moreover as the character “飛 fly” indicates it is accompanied by strong wind as the first meaning of the term goes.  Its second meaning is simply “strong rain.”  

On that day, it wasn’t very windy.

一昨日の午後と夜に、とても激しい雨が降りました。

これは「飛雨」です。とても激しい雨のことだそうで、でも、「飛」というぐらいで、この言葉の意味は、まず「風に飛ばされながら降る激しい雨」で二番目の意味が単に「激しい雨」。一昨日は、風はそれほど強くありませんでした。
