As someone invited me to, I went to an old bathhouse for the first time in many years and enjoyed it very much.

Sadly, however, it was their last business day.  Although I am sure the people working there were very sad, somehow at the same time, I am certain that they were quite relieved in a sense.

When I was growing up, bathhouses were quite common.  But now I wonder if that kind of “old-style” bathhouses are disappearing completely.

Although I picked up this modern haiku somehow, I didn’t soak in the cold-water bathtub there.

Slowly, quietly, gently/

Month of July/

Crept into cold-water bath/

誘ってくれた人がいたので、とても久しぶりにお風呂屋さんに行きました。けれどもその日は営業最終日でした。そこの人たちはきっと寂しかったでしょうけれど、多分ほっと安堵されているとも思います。

以前、お風呂屋さんは珍しいものではありませんでしたが、昔ながらのお風呂屋さんは無くなってしまうのでしょうか。

何ということもなくこの現代俳句を書きましたが、水風呂には浸かりませんでした。
