〜Date of the lunar calendar  春の終わり〜

The other day, I wrote that April 3rd marked March 3rd, that is, Double Third Festival Dayfollowing the old calendar this year.  Thus, today, April 30th falls on March 30th according to the lunar calendar.  

Apparently, this date is supposed to be the last day of spring in China.  

The photo shows one passage from a poem meaning “spring ended this morning”.

先日今年はちょうど4月3日が旧暦では上巳の3月3日にあたりますということを書きましたが、それで今日4月30日は旧暦の3月30日ということになります。

そして、3月30日は中国では春の終わりの日とされているそうです。

これはある詩の一節で、「今朝春が終わった」という意味だそうです。

〜Sunny, but cold day 春に降る雪〜

It has been officially “spring” for about two weeks according to the old calendar.  Still, this morning I woke up to find a thin layer of snow.  We enjoy bright sunshine but it is such a cold day.

暦の上での春はもう2週間ぐらい続いています。けれども朝起きてみたらうっすらと雪が積もっていました。日差しはとても明るくて、でも冷たい日です。

According to the lunar calendar, today falls on the first day of winter.  I think I must try and devote myself to calligraphy with a tranquil mind as this haiku implies.

〜Dolls Festival Day in the old calendar　今日まで飾れる〜

Today falls on March 3rd, the Dolls Festival day, in the old, lunar calendar.  It is customary to stop displaying the hina dolls on this date.  And many people in Japan follow this rule according to the new calendar, however, I always displayed them until March 3rd in the lunar calendar, so I can enjoy decorating them over a long period.  These days, however, I don’t decorate the dolls but instead, every year I display this lovely designed paper scroll with a haiku of Dolls Festival day until March 3rd in the old calendar.

今日は旧暦の3月3日で上巳の節句。旧暦3月3日まで飾れば一番長い間飾れると考えて、私は毎年、このとても可愛い意匠に仕立ててもらったひな祭りの俳句の掛け軸をその期間、旧暦の上巳の節句まで飾ることにしています。
