〜Out of season…?　金魚〜

I am going to show this one at the mother-daughter exhibition scheduled for the end of this month.  The big letters “金魚 or goldfish” is by my mother and I wrote the small ones, an old Chinese poem about goldfish.  The origami goldfishes were made by the caregivers at the facility for the elderly my mother belonged at the time.  It holds a lot of memories for me.

The outline of the mother-daughter exhibition follows:

Name of the exhibition: 絹江と知子 (Kinue and Tomoko)

Date and time: Saturday, October 29, 2022 – Monday, October 31

            From 11:00 – 17:00 (October 29, 30)

            From 11:00 – 16:00 (October 31)

Venue: Tsuda Gallery, 津田画廊http://www5a.biglobe.ne.jp/~tsuda/

これも今月末に予定している母と私の書の作品展で飾ろうと思っています。大きな字は母が書き、小さな字は金魚をモチーフにした漢詩を私が書きました。折り紙の金魚は、当時母がお世話になっていた施設の職員さんが作られました。いろいろと思い出深いです。

今回の母娘展の概要は下記の通りです。

〜Mother’s favorite　香りの高い枝〜

My late mother liked orange sweet tea trees.  She used to say she liked the plant because it was giving off sweet fragrance before she noticed.  Hearing that comment from my mother, I was always so surprised.  I just thought that kind of comment was out of her character.  

The poem says by breaking a branch of the odoriferous tree and putting it in your sleeve you can save the trouble to burn incense to make your clothing fragrant.

亡母は金木犀が好きでした。ふと気づくといつの間にか香っていて、その奥ゆかしさに惹かれると言っていました。この人が、この発言！？　といつも驚きました。

この詩は、一枝手折って袖に忍ばせれば、香を焚いて衣に良い香りをつけなくてもいいという内容です。

〜Popular summer food　食べてね〜

As my late mother loved 素麺 or thin wheat noodles, I cooked some and offered it on the family Buddhist altar.  Its setout is so, very facile, though.

Summer clouds appear and grow limitlessly/

〜Cool looking glass container お花を浮かべて〜

I put some flower petals on the water in a glass container.  Then I placed it in front of my late mother’s photograph, thinking it would create a cool feeling and that it would help praying for her soul.

〜Around this time of year　土筆摘み〜

Yesterday I paid a formal visit to my late mother’s family grave.  Then I remembered my grandfather often took me as a child to the fields for picking horsetails around this time of year.  However, I can’t recall how he cooked the horsetails we brought back home and fed me.

昨日は亡母の郷の墓参に行きました。今ぐらいの季節には、祖父が幼い私を土筆摘みに連れ出してくれたのを思い出しましたが、取ってきた土筆をどういうふうに料理して食べさせてもらったのかは思い出せません。
