〜The letter “Yu”  形も音も優しい〜

It is not that I was asked to write this hiragana (Japanese phonetic system letter) ゆ yu, still I chose to write this one because a number of my friends’ names begin with this letter.  Sometime ago, I wrote the letter ま ma, an initial of a friend’s name.  To my greatest delight, she was so pleased with my calligraphy, she offered to buy it.  I thought your initial is that important to you.

I love the letter ゆ, yu because both its shape and sound are so soft and gentle.

この字を書いてと頼まれたのではありませんが、名前に「ゆ」のつく友人が多いです。先日お名前の初めの字のひらがな「ま」を書いたところ、非常に喜んでいただいて、お買い上げくださったぐらいです。自分の名前の頭文字はそれほどに思い入れが深いものなのですね。

「ゆ」は、形も音も優しくていい字だと思います。

〜Overjoyed but a little mystified  飾っていただきました〜

Responding to my request for a letter or a word, someone, an excellent tarot reader, gave a hiragana, one character from the Japanese phonetic alphabet system, “ま”, namely the initial letter of her name.

To my extreme happiness, she liked this calligraphy of mine and offered to buy it.  It is now displayed in her salon.

Now I feel I am on top of the world to see a pretty lady bought my calligraphy that I myself think to be a good one.

Here is one more really intriguing thing.  I used a brush of swan feathers for this one.  Then later, I learned this lady is connected with swans probably at “soul level”, that is.

お好きな字や語を教えてくださいとお願いしたら、ひらがなの「ま」を挙げてくださったタロットリーディングの達人がいました。お名前の頭文字です。

そうしたら、この書を気に入ってお買い上げくださり、サロンに飾ってくださいました。綺麗な方のところに、自分でも綺麗に書けたかなと思う字が貰われていって、とても幸せです。

更にもう一点、不思議だと思ったのは、これは白鳥の羽根の筆で書きましたが、この方は「白鳥」とご縁が深いそうです。恐らく、魂のレベルにおいて。

〜Only form and sound  ひらがな〜

To every post, I attach a sentence asking for you, readers’ favorite letter or word.  Almost all people react to this request showing their favorite Chinese character(s).  Because they have meanings as well as sounds, it is easy and natural for people to reflect their thoughts to each Chinese character.  

However, one young woman, beautiful and graceful, mentioned a hiragana, a phonetic alphabet in Japanese language.  In this case, she presented “ま (ma)”, the initial letter of her name.  I, too, have a liking for hiragana despite their lack of meaning.  These days I often use a little seal on my calligraphic works with only one character “と (to)” my initial letter carved in it.

私は投稿する記事に必ず、お好きな字や言葉を教えてほしいと書いています。そして、大抵の人たちは、この「字」を漢字だと解釈されます。それは、漢字には意味がありますから、思い入れを投影しやすいということだと思います。けれども、同じようにお好きな字は？　と尋ねたらひらがなの「ま」を挙げてくれた若くたおやかな女性がいました。確かに、私も意味がなくてもひらがなは好きです。私もこのところ、自分の名前の初めの字（音）「と」だけを彫ってもらった小さな雅号印を多用しています。
