〜Assignment　未だ再開されず〜

Although we haven’t had our calligraphy lessons for about three years now, our teacher sends us, her students, models and assignments by mail.  For the assignment to write something on a postcard, I wrote my own haiku.  Now, I am wondering which one I should submit.

It is I that fly taking my late mother’s hand/

〜Gracefulness　ハガキ作品その5〜

The character is “雅” or “gracefulness”, which is the last one of the five of postcard works.  

Regardless of age or gender, being graceful is an important quality as a person.

As a matter of fact, the letter was suggested by my long-time friend just like “oar”.

〜Huge overflowing of energy　ハガキ作品その4〜

The word is “漲溢” or overflowing of accumulated energy.  

When I wrote this word last month, I was thinking of making it into a postcard work.

Somehow, I like the characters and the image they carry.  Something powerful

〜Different style of writing　ハガキ作品その3〜

The word is “瑞祥” or auspicious omen.  

The word is the same as I wrote previously.  Only the style is different.  This one is meant to be exhibited at the postcard collection.  

It makes me feel great to write some characters or words that suggest good fortune, anyway.

〜Powerful flowing of abundant energy  ハガキ作品に〜

I like the Chinese character “漲” that means overflowing, overflowing of energy, enthusiasm, can-do spirit and what not.  So, I looked for a phrase with this letter and found this one “漲溢”.

The image is the desire for expression being accumulated, cherishingly piled up and again newly produced; then finally begin powerfully overflowing.

I am thinking how I could make it into a postcard work as the “瑞祥”.

漲るという字が好きなので、これが含まれる熟語を探してみました。それで、「漲溢」です。

積み重ねて、大事に溜めて、また生み出して、満杯になった表現欲求が力強く溢れ出るイメージです。

〜Hope they like my calligraphy　ハガキの書、海外へ〜

The other day, I sent a number of postcards with my calligraphy, “friendship” on them to my very good friend, a very devoted teacher in Poland.  I asked her to use the postcards as gifts for the season and show them something foreign to them.  For, I thought, seeing the cards, some of them would develop interests in Japan and Japanese style calligraphy.  Now, I am very glad to see those cards reached her and her students look pleased with them.

先日とても良い友人に「友情」を書いたハガキ作品を何枚かまとめて送りました。この方はポーランドで、それは熱心な先生をしておられますので、このハガキを子供たちへの贈り物として使って、彼らには異質の外国のものを見せてあげてほしいとお願いしました。中には日本や日本の書道に興味を持つ子も出て来るかもしれないと思ったからです。送ったハガキはちゃんと受け取ってもらい、また子供たちが気に入ってくれたようなので、とても嬉しく思っています。

〜Sacredness　時節柄の想い〜

The Postcard Collection event this time has a main theme, “想う, feel, think, desire, sentiment, wish, and what not.  I thought of this word, “sacredness”, just in view of the time of year.  The event is held through this Sunday.

〜For the collection 5 　ハガキと団扇　5〜

This set is the last one for the postcard collection that is in session till this Sunday.  This character generally represents “longevity”.  However, when I try to explain its meaning in English, I always put “happy” before longevity.  For, I believe living a happy, long life is the most important.  Technically, for this one I used a brush with longer and softer hair than most normal ones.

.

次の日曜日まで開催中のポストカードコレクションに出展した最後のセットです。「寿」は普通長寿の意味とされますが、私は英語で説明したいときにはいつも長寿の前に”happy”を付けます。幸せに長生きすることこそ大事だと思うからです。技術的なことを書きますと、これには長鋒を使いました。
