〜Third try　時空を越えて〜

This is my third try to write an old Chinese poem composed around the end of eighth century which apparently inspired a contemporary Poland-born writer to create an excellent picture book.  A little while ago, someone told me about this story of the picture book that intrigued me so much I tried the same motif twice so far.  

However, I regret it didn’t reach the point I hoped.  I only wish everyone in the world would peacefully enjoy various kinds of arts.

少し前にポーランド生まれの作家の絵本について教えてくださった方がいました。興味深いのは、その作家は8世紀終わり頃の詩に着想を得てこの絵本を執筆したということで、このインスピレーションの元となった詩をこれまでに2回書きました。これが3度目のトライなのですが、なかなか自分が思うような作品になりません。

ただ、世界中の人たちが、のんびりと藝術を楽しめればいいと思うのです。

〜Another try 　別のレイアウトで〜

One day last month, I got very intrigued when someone told me a Poland-born American writer of our time produced a picture book inspired by an ancient Chinese poem.  I immediately wrote that old Chinese poem but at that time I already was thinking of trying the same thing on a different size of paper and in a different layout.  And now I am thinking of trying it once again on a smaller sized paper.

先月のある日、現代のポーランド生まれのアメリカ人作家が中国の古い詩にインスパイアされて、一冊の絵本を書かれたと知って、その中国の詩を書きました。このときすぐに考えていたことですが、紙の大きさや行送りなどを変えて再度書いてみました。そして今は、これとはまた違う小さな紙にも書いてみようかと考えています。

〜Contact between the east and west ある絵本〜

At a gathering, I talked about a calligraphy group exhibition that I so fortunately had a chance to participate in, a lady told me about a picture book by a Poland-born American author, Uri Shulevitz.  Then I was really amazed when this lady continued that this author was inspired by a poem by Liu Zongyuan, a poet from the Tang Dynasty, China and wrote the book.  I got so intrigued I immediately employed this poem as a material of my calligraphy.  As a matter of fact, it is so intriguing, I think I will try this again on a paper of different size and shape.

ある集まりで、ありがたいご縁があってポーランドで開かれた書のグループ展に参加させてもらったことがありますというお話をしたところ、ポーランド生まれでアメリカの絵本作家ユリーシュルビッツの著作を教えくださった方がいました。しかもそのモチーフは、中国唐代の詩人柳宗元のある詩によっている、とのこと。なんと、そんなことがあるのねと思って、すぐにその詩を書きました。とても面白い素材なので、形や大きさの違う紙に行送りを変えて、また書いてみたいと思います。
