〜Bailu 　秋の二十四節気〜

Today marks the first day of Bailu, one of the 24 two-week periods of the solar terms.  The term literally means “white dew”, seemingly a cool and refreshing image.  However, as a matter of fact it is just like the mid-summer days in the daytime.

〜Seasonal words　蒙霧升降〜

This is the solar term for the five-day-period starting today, meaning “dense fog is around.”  Elaborating it is “this is about the time when dense fog tends to form due to coolness in the morning and evening.”  We don’t have foggy weather very often, but I do hope we will have cool mornings and evenings.

〜July full moon　角の種類〜

According to the Native American tradition, the full moon this month is called “buck moon”.  For, this is about time when horns of bucks that were regrew in spring begin to have antlers.  Thanks to this, I learned the words and the difference between “horn” and “antler(s)”.

ネイティブアメリカンの伝統では、今月の満月は「バック（雄鹿）の月」だそうです。これは、雄鹿の春頃に生え変わった角が7月頃になると枝角が生えてくるからということだそうです。

私はこれによって、真性のツノhornと枝角antler(s)という2語とその違いを覚えました。

“Lotus flowers are beginning to bloom.”

This is the solar term for about five days starting today.  Lotus flowers are said to be a symbol of seraphic lives in the Pure Land Paradise of the Buddhist philosophy because they grow from dirt and bloom cleanly and peacefully.
