It was my first time to attend this ritual. I have been practicing calligraphy more than fifty years, though.
We have a traditional thinking that we should show appreciation to well-used tools, such as chasen or tea whisks used in tea ceremony, needles and brushes.
The photos show the ritual held annually in Tofuku-ji Temple.
According to our way of thinking is; to show thankfulness, we burn the tools in a sacred flame for them to be purified and go aloft.
